INTRODUCTION TO SOFT PASTEL

This is a class for anyone wishing to try pastels for the first time. You will learn about the various supplies available and where to get them. You will learn basic application techniques. You will do a simple piece in class. You may begin with a small set and mix colors by layering techniques. If you enjoy the medium, you will certainly wish to expand your set of pastels.

If you really enjoy it, you may gradually expand your supplies and ways of working.

This class offers a disciplined approach to mastering the art of mixing colors. Lessons will teach students how to manipulate hue, value and intensity of colors. Students will build their understanding of how light affects colors and colors affect one another through exercises ranging from simple to challenging. Susan will guide the class through this course as developed by Betty Edwards (author of Color and Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain).

TERRACOTTA PORTRAITS
