COLOR CONFIDENCE
with Jane Jones
March 15 - 18, 2010
9:30 am - 4:30 pm
Price to be announced later
This workshop will help you identify what color you want to mix and then how to mix it efficiently. The basics of color theory will be covered, but most of the workshop will be spent mixing color and making small studies. Using a limited palette will help you develop a foundation for how to think about color mixing. In this workshop, color theory will come alive as color expression. You will also learn about how colors effect each other so that you can compose with color freely and meaningfully. Creativity is sometimes chaotic, but color mixing doesn't have to be, it can be a tool to express your creativity and this workshop will make it just that. This is a workshop for all painting media. Instructor demonstrations and slide presentations, along with individual instruction and critiques will be used to teach the process and techniques used.

I think that the most exciting concept that I have found in my own work is what I like to teach in my workshops. Light is the essence of color. Contrasts between light and shadow are the glue that holds the composition together. Secondly, texture is the important third dimension that brings sculptural quality to oil paintings like no other painting medium can do. I believe that if you can see it . . . you can paint it. Painters are people whose eyes have been opened to see what is around us everyday in a new and wonderful way. How many times have you seen the incredible color of a sunset or a blossom in springtime, the light as it falls through the branches of a forest or dances on the water, the shadows of trees in the late afternoon? Whether I am teaching the rank beginner or the seasoned professional, I believe that I can best serve my students as a contractor. I help my students build their paintings from the ground up. Just like building a house, the foundation is laid first, then the plumbing must be considered before the framing, drywall, and finally the details. The same is true when building a painting. Let me help you build yours.
