Many times when people view my watercolors on Yupo I'm asked "Is it Ink"? The reason for the class title.
"IT' S NOT Ink" If you love the vibrant colors of ink you will love watercolor on Yupo without all the vapors of alcohol ink. My painting techniques with watercolor will produce the same vibrate on Yupo paper. We will work on two to four different paintings in the two days. Supplies will be furnished - you only need to bring your favorite brushes and a rigger also known as a liner and a # 8 round. All levels.
Introduction to Water Color - Jean Smyth – Wednesday and Thursday, February 6 & 7, 10:00-3:00 $72/$81/$90
This class will focus on the basics of watercolor including papers, brushes, pigments and techniques to control the water and some special effects. It is perfect for someone wanting to get started in watercolor or continue from an earlier class. Bring photos of flowers and a landscape that you would like to paint. We will do flowers the first day and a landscape the second day. Beginner
Watercolor on Rice Paper - Pat McMahon – Wednesday and Thursday, March 6 & 7, 10:00-12:00 $32/$36/$40
Come try an exciting new technique with watercolor! Since rice paper is see-through, you put the design under the rice paper and draw it with an indelible felt tip pen. Then you will be drawing with wax on the rice paper, then painting over the wax, crinkling it for texture, then finally ironing it in between newspapers to melt out the wax. The effect is awesome and one that will truly enhance your painting!

Strengthening Values and Working Faster! Colored Pencil and Watercolor Crayon

Try a faster method of developing larger areas such as backgrounds or dark areas using either watercolor crayons such as Neocolor or watercolor pencils. This is much easier than working a long time trying to accomplish these areas using strictly colored pencils. Use as an underpainting and then complete the work with artists colored pencils. Intermediate/Advanced
Quick-Dry Underpainting in Pastel-Soft Pastels - Betty Hendrix - Wednesday, February 20, 10:00-3:00 $37/$41/$45
Learn a method of getting your shapes and values developed on the page quickly using a little alcohol from the drugstore (which will dry quickly) so you can then move right on to getting into the development and excitement of rich pastel colors. A good method for designing your page as a whole unit and building the detail once the shapes are established. A good quality sanded paper is essential and will be provided for the students. Intermediate/Advanced
Colored Pencil on Mylar – Betty Hendrix – Wednesday, March 20, 10:00-3:00 $37/$41/$45
Learn a fun and easy way to work in colored pencil. Mylar or Duralar is a fairly slick surface which may be worked front and back – though neither side will take heavy application. Image transfer is easily traced from a similar sized image. Tooth to fill is not a problem. Beginner/Intermediate
Animals, Birds, or People-Working Shape to Shape-Pastel – Betty Hendrix-Wednesday, May 8, 10:00-3:00 $37/$41/$45
This is a class to develop skills with soft pastels where students will work from photos and learn measuring techniques and how to begin with a simple subject and design on Mi Teintes colored papers. In this technique it is better to have a paper larger than anticipated to be the finished size so you don’t run off the sheet. There will be a variety of full sheets available for students.
