WATERCOLOR

Travel Journal–Ink and Watercolor – Betty Hendrix –
Wednesday, January 26, 10:00-3:00 $39/$44/$48
A class for anyone who would like to journal colorfully. This is a
method of permanent ink drawing with micron pens combined with
bold fresh watercolor. It is easily portable and does not require lots
of supplies. There will be a variety of subject matter put out for
students to draw from life (plants, pottery, tools—etc.) which is more
typical of a travel journal, or students may bring their own photos of
scenes, buildings, etc. to work from. It is great practice and a good
way to find out what to take along in the future. Beginner/Intermediate.

Watercolor Basics and More – Jean Smyth – Tuesday, February 1, 10:00-3:00 $39/$44/$48
Many people believe that watercolor painting is very difficult. While not every painting is a success there are ways to create beautiful effects. A review of techniques to manage water and produce interesting results will be demonstrated in this class. Different types of paper also react differently to brush and water. We will review techniques such as “wet in wet” skies, drybrush rocks, trees and florals. Participants should bring some photo references of what interests them. Attention will be given to composition and focal point. A completed painting is not the goal, rather a time to practice ways to achieve desired effect and build confidence. Lastly, its practice, practice, practice, and love what you do. Beginner/Intermediate. (1 hour lunch break)

Silkscreen with Watercolor – Cathy Brown – Tuesday and Wednesday,
February 8, 9, 10:00-12:30 $54/$59/$63
This class will prove to be pure joy for participants! It combines the pleasure
of painting with the happy "surprises" of printmaking. The student will work
from a photograph of their choice (not too complicated, usually simple
landscape works best.) The painting on the silkscreen frame is then printed.
The instructor will guide students through the entire process with demonstrations
as well as one on one instruction. Each student will receive a silkscreen frame to
keep for further individual exploration of this medium! Intermediate/Advanced

                                                Flowers and Glass Series – Jean Smyth – Fridays, March 11, 18, 25 1:00-4:00                                                 $72/$81/$90
This 3 hour afternoon class (with a 30 minute lunch break) is for those who want to                                                 paint the illusion of glass but have been intimidated. Participants will work from a still                                                 life with live flowers and still life photo. Each week will have different subject matter.                                                 Prior experience with watercolor and drawing is required.

Working from Life – Plein Air Painting!! (Your choice of medium-instructor will work in Pastel) - Betty Hendrix Monday/Tuesday, March 28 and 29, 9:00-3:00 $96/$102/$120             ANY MEDIUM
An opportunity to get out with a group and paint from life (weather permitting). If weather forces us inside we will do something from life inside – plants, still life, or photos of your own. Intermediate/Advanced. (1 hour lunch break)

Watercolor on Rice Paper – Pat McMahon –Wednesday and Thursday March                                                     30,31, 10:00-12:00 $48/$53/$58
Come try an exciting new technique with watercolor! Since rice paper is                                                     see-through, you put the design under the rice paper and draw it with an indelible                                                     felt tip pen. Then you will be drawing with wax on the rice paper, then painting over                                                     the wax, crinkling it for texture, then finally ironing it in between newspapers to melt                                                     out the wax. The effect is awesome and one that will truly enhance your painting! All                                                     levels.
